rear shocks length

What is the correct length ,centre to centre for the rear shocks on the 400/4? David Silver patterns come in at 315mm,those I have are 320 centres and various other manufacturers go up  to 345 mm and listed as for a CB 400/4.

I have TEC shocks fitted and they are 320mm centre to centre.

Hi there, have just been out to the garage and measured my shox, and they are 320mm between centres. Your query hit a nerve with me because I purchased a pair of replacements of very similar design without checking the length!!!! When fitted, the extra length meant that the rear axle nut fouled the silencer, so instead of calling it a day I managed to re-jig the silencer mounting, (Pillock!). When all this was accomplished everything looked ok until I realised that the rear wheel was only just off the ground when on the stand, and when the bike was taken off the stand it fouled the lower run of the rear chain! Removed, returned to seller for prompt refund, and took my time and eventually found a pattern pair that are a perfect match in size, looks, and capability. Do not fit any that are a different length!!!!!! Regards, Michael.

Haha, love that. At 320 mm mine almost touch the exhaust when on centre stand but plenty of clearance when sitting on bike. The originals were 315 mm.

As you have found most after market rear dampers with the lower forked fitting are not quite the correct length.

The only ones that are exactly as needed are the Tec shocks.

Thanks all, TEC shocks purchased and fitted. Good fit and speedy service and not too expensive. Also bought adjustable jota bars to add a bit of style to rebuild.
