Getting cb750k on centre stand
« on: August 09, 2018, 12:10:22 PM »
Really struggling to get my USA import on centre stand. Is it cause my rear wheel is smaller? Maybe I'm a weakling  ;D

Hmmm, Mine goes on ok although definitely not the easiest I have ever known, you do have to press quite hard on the lever with your foot while lifting the seat grab rail.

If it makes you feel better Simon I have never, ever been able to get a CB750 on the center stand, I struggle with a CB 500/4 and CB550/4 but I can do the CB400/4 on a good day but it has to be a very good day !!!

I attended gatley motorcycle owners group before my local pub got demolished to make way for new houses. . I asked a guy how do you get your massive gold wing on its ctre stand. He goes try it. I declined. He insisted.
I did it. Maybe I used the force luke.  :D

if you have a smaller wheel,it means you have more to lift,

when I had a rear puncture ,and the rear was flat,I found it impossible to lift my 500 onto the stand ,

No it's definatly a struggle. Almost pulls my arm out of the socket. It certainly won't get any lighter or easier as time marches on and when it's sat on the side stand it's bordering vertical which never looks safe !. A slight rock and huge effort to lift gets it there eventually - in 10 years time it will be a different story.

When I got my US ko obviously a large previous owner had been sitting/kick starting on the main stand
this had bent the stop bar meaning the  stand went way too far over vertical, I had a 16 " wheel on the back and both wheels were touching the ground.
When on the stand the rear wheel should be clear of the ground .
I did a total rebuild on mine so had stop plates welded on the stand stop bar .
Can you do a side on photo of the stand  ,that should be able to give a clue.

Real men don't wear flip flops  :P

I don't know what my dads been doing to my bikes but he's managed to brake the glue bond on the left hand grips on two of them. He didn't tell me with the 550 and when I put it away it made me sweat somewhat as it slid off in my hand with the bike in limbo not on the stand and not off it.

Simon, i'm really pleased you are having difficulty in getting your cb750 on the centre stand, because it means that i am not the only wimp on this forum.

I too am having great difficulty in getting my newly acquired American import K1 on the centre stand. Back in 1973 i had a new K2 and had no problem in getting that on the stand, ok, i was 25 back then, now i'm 70 but i don't think i've lost that much muscle and having owned over 100 bikes since i was 16 i don't think it's a technique issue.
