Standard BZP bolt replacement
« on: August 11, 2018, 11:19:41 AM »
I'm in a bit of a quandry about the bolts. The standard BZP 8mm bolts have a 12mm head and the 10mm a 14mm. The rest appear to be standard. Yamiya sell bzp bolts that appear to be the OEM spanner size and even supply full kits for the 750 but not the 500.

Where do you all source bolts from please? Are you happy to use stainless with 13mm and 17mm heads instead of the OEM sizes.

There's very little in the way of fasteners that I can salvage from the bike as most were replaced with allen head or basterdised fasteners of one description or another.

Any help appreciated.

When I was rebuilding my 750F1 I bought most of my nuts and bolts from Custom Fasteners who stocked the right spanner sized nuts and bolts in chrome or stainless steel, I had a lot of bolts replated but where the standard bolts did not have the "8" on them I used new chrome or stainless ones. Stainless was also where they would likely rust and rot away, I also had some stainless engine bolts made up. This was a while ago so I am not sure what they do nowadays.
There are probably better and cheaper ones available now. but at the time this was all I could easily get.

I have always used MegaPacks on ebay, or their website- www.mrmegapack.co.uk/motorcycle-megapacks-15-c.asp

The other thing that I did was to go through the parts book page by page and list all the bolts on the bike and renew/replate them section by section.

I only replaced when needed. So far: 2 allen bolts for the left crankcase cover and 16 dito for the floatbowls. That's it.

If you are not fussed about being completely original then INOX fasteners do kits if bolts for the 500. I have used them and their service is good.
