Thanks again for info
Whats your view on the Boyer response from my first enquiry:-

'Thank you for your enquiry, when strobing try reversing the clamp on the strobe gun, also don't use a strobe that has a timing adjustment on it. We think the strobe is flashing on the coil energising and not switch off, this is why it runs ok but shows not to be on full advance'

I'm using a Gunson Strobe - do they mean reversing the HT leads that one goes to the plug and the other to the plug cap?

I've got  a bit of family related DIY jobs (daughters and mother in laws who are menless and have property!) so won't be touching the bike over the next week - I'll have a fiddle based on your guidance and let you know how I get on

I think they mean turn the indictive clamp over so that the ht cable runs the other way through the hole. Many years ago it was explained to me that on twin outlet coils one plug sparks fromcenter to outside whilst other one sparks from outside to centr so you should swop plugs over regularly----never bothered myself though

Same as Bryan here, I was trying to understand what they are advising in that statement.

Presumably you've got the strobe type that you disconnect the plug cap and put strobe between cap and plug? If so,  try putting it on the opposite lead from the same coil ie swap from 1 to 4 or the other way.

Again,  as Bryan,  the HT is coming from opposite ends of the same coil so differs between the two plugs,  I don't know if this is what they mean.

The strobe with inductive pickup differ from the above by having the unit powered from the vehicle battery,  and a clamp that goes around one of the HT lead to read the pulses going through to the plug without disconnecting it.  This could be what they mean as Bryan states by flipping the clamp over.  Don't think it applies to your strobe though.

I feel they make a good system which is well regarded, but if it's not quite right then hard to interpret with the information they aren't willing to disclose.
It's all well if the fit and performance is ok but hard to decipher if not.

Thanks again guys - my strobe type has a HT Leads that go in the cap and on the plug plus leads to the battery (Gunsons). I'll try the opposite cylinder
