Fork gaiters on 400/4...cool or naff?
« on: September 13, 2018, 05:19:41 PM »
I'm getting some things done to my CB400 tomorrow and it's the right time to fit the fork gaiters I've got waiting. Feel a bit on the fence...they were never standard at any point (?) but I like the way they add to classic looks...but for better or worse? Your thoughts.....

They look totally naff on a CB400/4 but, that's just my opinion.

Don't do it unless you are planning on riding in the pouring rain, snow, ice, sleet etc. They look awful although they do go well with a trench coat and sidecar when fitted ::)

I have no opinion on how they would look whether cool or naff, sorry.
Only that it's your bike and if you're not hung up on originality which seems to get some people's knickers in a twist and if you feel they'll enhance your enjoyment of riding it who cares how they look.

...funny old thing, they look fine on my 750K2. And by default, I guess they wouldn’t be objectional on my 400F. From an engineering POV they make good sense... particularly if using the bike regularly /  in all weathers.
And for me... that would be the deciding factor.

And its a naff from me. Too much can go on unseen under gaiters.

I wouldn't bother.   I used to ride in all kinds of shitty weather as I didn't have a car, so fork gaiters would have been useful back in the day.
Whatever next: a fully enclosed chain guard?
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

I'm torn between the devil and the deep blue sea, they used to look good on previous Hondas that had shrouds on the top part of the forks, ( CB 250/CB750), but ain't too sure about the 400 even though I agree with the reason for fitting. As I ride my 400 whenever I can, I'm seriously thinking about fitting a pair of Halcyon bar-end mirrors because I don't think my elbows are very attractive any more, and I want to see what is going on behind me. Same quandary, will they look naff, and do I care?
