!977 Honda CB550F Colours?
« on: October 06, 2018, 03:13:16 PM »
On the V5 of the cb550F I have just bought, the colour is stated as RED.  Can anyone expand on the Red colours that Honda would have used when this bike was registered on 1/08/1977. The existing tank is just a single deep red colour, with no decals on.

What was the original seat like? The seat supplied is a dual height seat with just a plain black covering.

Are there any phto's anywhere I can access that might give me the correct seat and tank colour.

Thanks Bill W.

Note engine- and framenumber of your bike. Then go to: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/parts-list/parts-list-cb550    In the first few pages of every CB550F Parts List the colors are listed with their code.

deltarider,

Looking at the parts lists, the CB550 lists are for 1975, 1976 and 1978. My bike was first registered on. 01/08/ 1977

The engine number and the frame number both relate to an English bike from 1978. Frame CB550F 2107548 and Engine CB550E 1146469. Should the 1978 parts list be1977??

Help please

Bill.

The seat is OEM but, it looks a little purple ( maybe the photo)

The seat on this one is not OEM , colour is right for a F2 >>> http://www.mcqart.com/550four/cb550-f2_showing.htm

In Candy Sword Blue with a non OEM seat  >>> http://www.wooburngreenmotorcycles.co.uk/used/bike/1018/702510/1978-t-reg-honda-cb550-k3.aspx

F1 and F2 shared the same seat. The F1 was brown in colour and the F2 was black, Honda logo in gold on the rear.

Thanks for all the photo's. Trigger, would the colour in the first picture be called "Candy Presto Red" as it would seem that is what mine should be. Looks like the seat supplied is also the wrong one, it's just a plain black, two-level seat with no strap across
Thanks all. Bill W.

Very perceptive about the colour in that photo Graham.

I clipped it from someone else's video clip post and they do suffer from incorrect colour.  The neutral balance is modified by looking at the raw voltages coming off the video chip, which usually have more green pixels than red/blue and can give a false reading when alot of green is in the subject area. It adds (effectively magenta) purple to the final image and gives the false colour you can see.

My kids laugh at me shouting at the telly when I see that in video footage they cut in from a drone source and the colour balance go's all to cock.
It's an area of imaging known as and handled by,  colour failure suppression algorithms.   ;D

So it all depends on how sophisticated the device algorithms are,  that one looks a bit shonky.   :)

That's why the 'year' doesn't give any useful information. Luckily you can always determine your model consulting the first few pages of forsaid Parts Lists.

The OEM colour is Candy Presto Red for the F2. The seat is easy to spot, tool compartment at the rear and chrome seat rails  ;)

Thanks guys, deltarider, I have managed to determine that the Honda Paint colour is R-8C-S, which equates to "Candy Presto Red"

Thanks Trigger for the info to determine an OEM seat.

Thanks again. Bill W.
