Centre stand pin seized solid
« on: October 12, 2018, 08:33:52 PM »
Just stripping the frame here ready for powder coating and the centre stand pin is seized in pretty good with many years rust. Tried giving it a couple of swift and very careful hits with a drift but it’s being a bit of a sod and not moving at all. This must be a common problem so is the best solution penetrating oil, heat then try moving it again?

Thanks guys.

Read Sprocket's 1975 400/4 project posts in the project board. He has just gone through the same problem  :D

Thanks guys and will give it a go on Monday morning. Love the grease nipple idea and yes will be doing that. Thanks  :)

You can the same type of mod to the front caliper mount, there's a section of the pivot bolt that's thinner for some reason, just drill and tap into the swinging mount arm so it aligns with this thinner section, the alloy is thick enough to take the grease nipple with no nut needed, copper washer again to space the nipple out a bit and seal it. Works a treat and keeps the arm swinging free for many a year.

Thanks. I took that apart on Friday so I will take a look tomorrow.
