Hi I've just taken delivery of one of these. It's aluminium!! Is that right? I expected rubber. It came from David Silver

Yes, it is a alloy crush washer. I have to buy them in trade in packs of 100

Yes, 25 ftlb torque, much more than this could crack the sump pan

Ok thanks. Don't have a torque spanner but I'll tighten it gently and if oil seeps i'l give it a little more.

I have moved over to using Dowty Washers for the drain plugs of all my vehicles.

They have a bonded in rubber seal for extra security.

Not tight enough and it will fall out, too tight and it will crack the sump pan

It is well worth investing in a torque wrench! I would not be without one.

Buy a 1/4" drive low reading one. The usual 1/2" drives are only good for torquing up car wheels.
