CB400F Camshaft Bearings
« on: November 11, 2018, 03:18:27 AM »
Hi Guys, can anyone help please. I'm in the process of restoring a 400/4 and have hit a snag. One of the camshaft bearings is badly pitted as is the corresponding cam section. The service manual says to replace the head, and I assume the camshaft.
Has anyone ever successfully replaced the cam shaft bearings or is it really the death of an otherwise healthy head?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thx, AussieKC

There is another thread running all about the possibilities of machining the 400 head to take bearing shells but I am not sure I would even attempt it here in Australia.. then again you might find some very resourceful machinist who can do something for you.

The other alternative is this head which has been floating about on ebay for about 6 months.. maybe make him an offer.

Thx AndyCH, much appreciated. I'm talking to local machine shop tomorrow that builds engines for speedway bikes. They might have some ideas.

Thank again

You could try Redax who are based in Queensland. They are Laverda specialists but they may be able to help or at least point you in the right direction. They have a website. The quality of their work is known throughout the world of Laverda.
Good luck and at least your speedway season has just begun, ours has just ended until March 2019  :(
