Can you make a compression gauge with the tools I have Graham? (i.e. a hammer and adjustable spanner)

I am not a fan of new tools Phil, i prefer to buy good second hand which are made a lot better and last. Also not a big fan of Snip on tools, but did spot this >>> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Snap-On-Tools-2-screwdrivers-1-socket-1-Cylinder-Compression-Tester-250-PSI/223237270932?hash=item33f9fa6d94:g:RUYAAOSw5oxb4zI4:rk:11:pf:0

Thanks Rob - I'm sure the plugs on the 750 are 12mm though? The Gunsons is 14mm & 18mm

Most of the bikes are 12mm,  I think with very few exception on the four strokes.

Full description is 12mm metric fine,  I believe, as it's 1.25mm thread pitch. Straight metric, again I believe, to be 1.5mm pitch which is normal engineering size for non specific use.

The need to be a little careful is there if you wish to avoid a mash-up.

I've no recommendation as my screw in type is an old Sykes-Pickavent which I can't find a current example of.

The one's with rigid tube and rubber cone that you just hold in the plug hole while you turn it over are a little awkward but they do work well and have always given me repeatable readings.

You can assess if they are giving realistic readings by trying them in another known good engine to see what they read.

Done a bit of research on the Gunson gauge that Rob recommended and you buy adaptors for the 12mm thread. I've no real use for it at the moment - just building my tool base for the future, although will use it on my next project as it will be my first 750 that won't have a full engine build as it was sold to be as a good runner (?????)
