oil from Dynamo seal!!!!!!!
« on: December 10, 2018, 08:55:43 AM »
Dear all.

More help  please. I recently changed oil , oil filter etc. New plug . I put a white surface under to check that there were no leaks. After a few weeks I noticed few drops of oil. It appears to be coming from the seal on the dynamo cover. I happen to have a spare but I was a little concerned about why oil should be coming from an area containing electrical components??

Any thoughts please.

Ricardo.
PS to Julie I haven't yet got round to that plug thing you advised me about  The current Mrs Ricardo has been away and I've had to feed myself which is quite time consuming. What shall I do now. The freezer is empty and I can't find the hoover????

Start looking for a replacement Mrs Ricardo 😀😀😀
There is an oil seal on the crank and an O ring on the end of the main oil gallery plug behind that cover.

So draining oil is mandatory?

Apologies is I seem to be bothering you. Will I need to drain the oil to do this job? I know I should know this but don't.

PS My wife is coming back from Australia later today. I've made a mistake and thought she was coming back tomorrow. I have organised a footy party tonight . 8 of us eating, drinking and watching the Barcelona v Spurs match. Do you know a good divorce solicitor???
Ricardo
PS I found the vacuum cleaner and learned how to work the dishwasher. just in time for the party!

Yes to draining the oil. As regards the wife, you could make an anonymous phone call to the Border Agency, giving her description and flight details, telling them you have a tip off that she has swallowed several bags of Heroin/cocaine, whatever. That way they would detain her for 24-48 hrs waiting for nature to take it's course, find she was innocent and release her. Meantime, you can enjoy the party and worry about clearing up tomorrow! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Don't drain the oil until you know were the leak is coming from  :o Clean the area and a puff of talc powder will show were it is wet  ;)

I'm pretty sure that I know. Stain on white plate and drip visible over join of the 2 parts

If Nurse Julie is correct that there are multiple possible sources of the leak hiding behind the cover, then I'm guessing Trig's suggestion is a wise one - if you drain the oil first, you may not be able to determine which seal or o-ring might be the culprit...
