Does this look like Candy Gold Custom to you?
« on: December 11, 2018, 02:19:55 PM »
Hunts advertising a new CB1100ex done in 1969 CB750 colours.

Personally I think it looks nothing like it but maybe I'm wrong.

Impossible to say from one photo, the camera and lighting makes a huge difference. Here is another shot that looks much more golden...... If its a Honda factory job I would expect it to be pretty close but I haven’t seen one so may be completely wrong.

It's been done by a UK firm, not a factory finish. It's supposed to be a homage to the early 750, they've also done a Ruby Red one that also looks nothing like what it's supposed to be. Hunts did 6 CB1300s (my current bike) in CBX 1000 colours in 2005, 3 were silver (my mate has one) and 3 were in red. They got those perfect but the paintwork was done by Dream Machine not the current one they've used.

Don't buy the CB1100 it's a real lemon, the older CB1300 is a FAR superior bike.

My mates still in the trade and we were discussing the 1100 as it's very similar to my present 1300, seems Honda made it fairly gutless, exhaust is very restrictive and it's the ports that are too small not the actual exhaust, the 1300 will pull your arms off, the 1100 would struggle to pull you out of bed.

In fairness the 1300 was intended to compete with the muscle bike offerings (larger displacement and bhp), the 1100's supposed competition is the modern retros i.e. Bonneville which it matches almost in paper statistics.

If the 1100 had been made a 750 with lower weight and the same performance it might not have seemed so bad, but other than weight and low power what else makes them a 'lemon'?

Just curious they seem to be quite rare in the UK still and haven't heard many opinions, personally I think they're too expensive for what they offer but I would still have one when prices get to the 3-4k mark.

I like them, they look great and im sure they would go well for what they are.. if you want big performance they probably aren’t the best choice  ;). I had a CB1300 and i liked that too... but i was always looking for an extra gear, they are very buzzy.... unlike say a firestorm where i was always in 3rd but still going too fast...very long legs. Each to his own. Im currently enjoying my 750 which is like a moped compared to either of the above  :)

Wasn’t the 1300 available in Japan (or at shows) a long time before it was released here?
