CB550F2/3
« on: December 19, 2018, 10:36:50 PM »
Hi, Could someone give me the model designation of this frame Number, is it F2 orF3?

The DVLA gives the T reg number as manufactured 1979 and First Registered May 1979.

I thought the CB550's stopped being made in 1978??

I read the frame No as either CB550F 2411276 or CB550F 2111276

Your thoughts welcome. Bill W.

Thanks Graham, still a lot to learn.

Were the rear shocks fitted with open chromed springs or shrouded ones?
Thanks
Bill W.
PS. What's the going rate for a full engine overhaul?

They have open shocks, the same as the 400 four.

Going rate  ??? Every engine is different and requires different new parts and different work  ;)

There never was a CB550F3. A separate CB550F2 parts list can be found here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/parts-list/parts-list-cb550 Compare the engine- and framenumbers listed in the first few pages of the parts list with yours, and you will know what model you have and what 'area code'.

Never an F3 was made. You have an F2 tank, F2 frame, F1 side panels and aftermarket shocks. I don't recognise the black indicator brackets either.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Set/sit. Bought/brought FFS. Bloody Americans.

LesterPiglet,
How can you tell they are after market shocks, or that the indicator brackets are wrong??
Were you looking at the photo Nurse Julie posted??

I think Lester is on about the photo i posted Bill. But, the tank is correct and so are the side panels for  a UK F2, the shocks are pattern ,TEC, as you cannot buy originals any more. The brackets are black and should be zinc plated. But hey ho, it's a work in progress restoration and has been off the road since about 1984 😀😀
Still looking for a set of NOS pipes if anyone has a set hidden away, i don't think Father Christmas is going to be of much help.
