Protecting the paint on fuel tank...
« on: January 02, 2019, 01:59:05 PM »
What is the best way to protect the paint on a motorcycle fuel tank from fading and scratching where it tends to meet the groin often? I've bought some sticky film but I'm not sure I trust it, I don't want to stick a pad there either.......

On a modern bike the best protection is a tank pad. They come in all shapes and sizes so just choose the one you like best.

Our old Honda tanks are not the best shape for tank pads though, I'm not fitting one on my 400/4. I'm going to put a couple of small vinyl stickers where the seat rubs the paint at the back of the tank for protection. They are out of sight when the seat is on.

Give the tank a good protective coat of wax polish and don't wear a jacket with a metal buckle at the front which can scratch the paint. HTH.
