Gulp!
« on: February 03, 2019, 03:57:18 PM »
Oh my 400/4 values appear to be on a steep rise judging by how much some people expect to get these days!

Stooooopid money. I like mine more and someone could buy mine for half that price.....if i were selling it.......which i'm not. Very sparce details on the listing.
I could be wrong....it has been known...;D ;D But, I think that belongs to someone who, a couple of years back, once dictated to us that the bottom was going to fall out of the classic bike market and we would all end up on the streets as Paupers, or something along those lines.

Somebody with plenty of spare cash may buy it, RD400’s have gone for similar money in the past. Silly money though.... good luck to him and even if he does sell it i bet he wont make much profit, it must cost an arm and leg to build one from nos parts anyway...

If he wants that for the 400 four I shudder to think what price he would ask for the CBX 1000.

Well, when the parts and services bill reached £7k for the 400/4 I restored I gave up counting, why bother, it wasn't about the money but my love of the bike and restoring bikes is my hobby. I know I'd never get my money back but that's not what I'm in it for. I've only ever sold one bike I restored in 30 years and that was because the mortgage rate hit 15%!
I like the barn find 400 Julie. Nice wheels and what looks like a Peter Furlong rear chain case. They were ugly but kept the crud off the chain (and also allowed the the owner to forget to check the chain tension!). I think that bike is going to make some large cash.

Wise decision to stop counting, its our choice to have an expensive hobby 😀😀 That 400 I posted the link to has got the wrong front end on it but depending on what it goes for, its still got potential.
Oh, and no rear indicators.

When I raced bikes I soon came to the conclusion that if you knew how much it cost you wouldn’t do it, I’ve refused to keep tabs on costs ever since.

I don't know what to think. I paid £4,250 for mine from wesellclassicbikes.com and I'm sure I paid too much, I didn't seem to have shopped around hard enough nor was I savvy enough, I wasn't on here either. At the time a Kawasaki triple was on the cards too. I'd been away from biking for 28 years. I'm put a couple of grand and lots of work into mine and a year later she looks and goes a great deal better, but it's a good job I'm not interested in selling.

jesus.. that one isn't worth £200 never mind £2000.... just a pile of rust. You'd have to be mad to take on a restoration like that when much better bikes can be had for not much more money...

I don't know... those original headers look to be in pretty good nick - aren't they running about £2000 these days?  ;)
