Is there an alternative swingarm
« on: January 30, 2019, 06:01:43 PM »
Currently doing a cafe racer project and i want to change the swingarm if possible. Maybe a inch or two longer.
Are there any bolt-on's or can you reccomend someone who will build one?

Thanks

Im about to fit a Dresda arm to my 750k1.
So I thought I would get it powder coated.
I wanted to fit new shock bushes. The method I use to remove the old bushes is to burn them out with a blow torch.
Then cut the outer ring & push it out. Simple as that But...
I could not believe what Dresda had done. They had welded the outer shell of the bushes directly to the swing arm. No housing or anything! A bit cheap considering they were quite expensive in the 70's
So I'm going to have housings made & welded on to take the bushes. As Dresda should have done originally

Ah, this is interesting. I had a cb550 project with a box section swing arm, the rear shock mounts looked like an afterthought. I assumed it was just a bodge up by a previous owner. Could you tell me, did dresda use tapper roller bearings in their cb550 swing arm. If so, I have one in my shed. Needs new bush mountings on the swing arm....
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

I think it's safe to assume they did.

Early GSXR 750 (f/g/h) ones fit - but they are getting harder to find now.
Apparently the pivot width is exactly the same, although some modifications are needed as it's a monoshock one and a bit longer too, so will need shortening. There is a thread in the US site that has this bike in, but I can't locate it just now.

This one also uses early GSXR wheels. I'm not sure what the forks and brakes are though. They aren't Slabside GSXR and the blue fork tops/ adjusters make them look a lot newer.

Cracking bike - it looks great, and it's a proper race bike too so probably goes pretty well.

Dresda one in the US version of a well known auction site. Not cheap though at £425. Is that what they usually cost?
