Sandcast?

What is it, that makes some people think that including the word "Sandcast" when advertising something for sale.
Justifies a ridiculously high price?
Even if the part is common to other models.

Because they are money grabbing Muppets and hope that someone will fall for their bullshit. I'm getting fed up with everything advertised at present, the lies, the false information and the hype, best in the world, better than from the factory etc, the name dropping of who owner / worked / sat on the bike etc. Let's the biking community down i think. I'm very tempted to give up anything to do with bikes actually and collect Species Pelargoniums instead. Biking has lost its meaning for a lot of people.

Don't let the bastards grind you down Julie. Real bikers don't inflate prices, hype up worthless junk or embellish histories. People who do are chances.
I can't help laughing at some of the ads placed in bike mags by these people, look at the claims made for the burnt out reck of an F2 being discussed at the moment on the forum 🤨.
The sandcast thing could be a lot worse, how much would a sandcast be worth if Steve McQueen had walked past it and actually stopped to have a look at it in a car park!

Just the same with the Black Bomber. They all think they can demand silly money for things. Take the left handlebar switch gear, NOS on eBay £225 plus postage (rare rare rare) NOS from Silvers £52+VAT. You would at least think they would check that they are not available before trying it on.

I entered some carrots that I grew in to a show about 45 years ago and got the 'good effort' prize 😀😀😁 I love gardening and grow most of my own plants and lots of veggies / salad stuff etc. It's a solitary past time, just like when I'm out riding one of my bikes......perfect.

I needed a turn signal relay, and its mounting rubber, for my CL450, as it was missing from the bike (it mounts on a tab on the ignition switch bracket) sadly for me it is exactly the same part as used on the sandcast CB750, built the same year.

NLA from Honda, but available in the States from breakers for $Insane  plus carriage and tax, with 'Sandcast' in the ads of course.

I went for a cheap generic Chinese one, as you can't see it, it works just as well but with an annoying squawk, at least now I won't be leaving the indicators switched on....

Yes, that's happening a lot at the moment Roy. The market seems to be flooded all of a sudden with NOS parts at the moment, advertised on ebay at stupid money, when, with a bit of rummaging around on proper parts dealer sites, the parts can be purchased for a lot, lot less.

Its just human nature, just ignore it... My experience on various forums is that the Worst moaners moan about the sellers when they are buying and the buyers when they are selling 😄

Yes you can get carried away on e Bay, when I was looking for F1/F2 parts I constantly had to check with Dave Silvers to compare prices and loads of time it was cheaper to go with Silvers.

Its not just the classic stuff, I needed a right handlebar starter/kill switch for a little Chinese bike, second hand looking sorry for its self on ebay from a breaker - £20. From the dealer brand new OEM - £6.99. The same breaker had a ropey looking carb for £30, brand new £26.99.

It's just the same garbage with Triumphs.......99% of the Triumph Unit Construction bikes from 1963 to 1970 used the same parts......basically the TR6/ TR6C had a single carb and raised handlebars (yokes) and the T120 Bonneville had two carbs and lower handlebars (yokes) with some other minor differences like fuel tanks, headlights, exhausts, forks and mudguards (painted or stainless/ alloy)......which were all 'universal' fitting to be honest.

Like the 'Sandcast Hondas', the 'Cash Cow' of the Triumph line up is the T120TT model which was produced in small numbers as a 'Factory Dirt bike racer' out of the crate.....which like 'Sandcast CB750's' is advertised as 'The Holy Grail' at anything up to £20K + yet 99% of the parts on the T120TT were the same as those fitted to the TR6/ TR6C/ Bonneville.

Of course a 'genuine' ex factory T120TT model is more valuable now than the other models because of their scarcity, but you could buy a 'basket case' and collect all the specific parts to make a 'replica' for a quarter of the price which makes the prices Dealers are asking for something supposedly or allegedly with a T120TT 'connection' laughable.....as the only thing which was really 'exclusive' to the T120TT was the Frame and Engine numbers..........anything other than those are just 'Triumph' - no more and no less.

I chuckle every time I see old Triumph parts advertised as 'T120TT' because most of them are nothing of the sort, but the asking price is hyper inflated trying to 'con' the unwary out of their 'hard earned'.....and it's not just the unscrupulous Dealers who are guilty, unfortunately, it's a disease that seems to be spreading throughout the industry.

One Golden Rule that 'newbies' to the Classic Motorcycling world need to learn very quickly is that nothing is as it seems, and 'CAVEAT EMPTOR' (Let the Buyer beware) should be their Screensaver !
