1961 CB72 at H& H Auctions next month Plus Black Bomber too

For anyone who is not into CB72's, the 1961 model had many diferences to the later production and is the most sought after. The guy who owned this, when he was alive, wanted £12k for it but H&H estimate £5-6k. There is also a lovely Black Bomber in the auction too,  which I suspect was his. Estimate for that is £6k too which seems very low.

I still have fond memories of the CB72, it was my first new bike in 1964 at the tender age of 16, i part ex'd a Tiger Cub Sports for it and what a difference. There wasn't another 250 at the time that could keep up with it and it shocked a few british 500 twins.

Yes, i fitted Goldie silencers too, but changed back pretty soon after i was repeatedly being pulled by the plod in their Austin Westminsters, the sneaky sods would hide in a side road and being alerted by the noise would tail you for a short distance and nick you over the speed limit.

Gone are the days when the police had the time and the resources for that.

There’s a guy round here on an R1 with MotoGP pipe. I wish they’d nick him!

I fitted twin open meggas to my CD175A sloper back in the day .. like the ones on this trendy  ;D ;D ;D chopper . man was that noisy and I got stopped constantly so I grafted on some SS125 standard ones.

The 1961 CB72 went for a measly £4200 didn't reach reserve but widow let it go at that. Now Freddy has it listed at £6k A year or so back the PO wanted £12k for it.....his Bomber went for £5500

I didn't realise it but the earlier bikes didn't have TLS brakes. I had a Black Bomber for many years until recently and never really liked it. They are short of a gear and unlike the CB72/77, which were also badly geared, you can't get a 5-speed box for the K0's. For me the later 5 speed ones were better bikes and a CB77 much better

I was following the auction on and off during the afternoon Ash.
The bidding was very slow on a lot of bikes with quite a few not reaching reserve but being sold anyway.
This could be an indication of prices starting to cool off in the classic car and bike scene?

Could be but the descriptions were very brief and did nothing to promote the rarity of the '61 CB72. Note to self and others ...make up a description of your bikes as if you were selling on eBay and give it to your family members ...just in case the unfortunate happens  :(

I think that it has been happening for a while now. Some people are still asking high prices but not much is actually selling. A great time to buy though?
