Headlight mounts
« on: February 24, 2019, 03:37:10 PM »
Can anyone advise if headlight mounts from any other models fit CB500 / 550 forks. I have already tried a pair from a CB750K6 and they are too tall.  I have not been able to find a useable pair of CB500 ones that don’t cost a fortune or are are in such poor condition they would need chromed.

If not familiar then it may help to know that they have nice thick rubber bushes to sit between the fork leg and headlight bracket - helps to identify parts if auto jumble rummaging. Cb550 ones look different to cb500 but should I think physically fit the space. Plenty of generic after market ones out there that would get you on the road, but most are frankly poor quality and ugly. I've not used aftermarket ones in about 15 years after getting fed up with wasting so much money on stuff that was either 50% more hedious than it looked in the catalogue or fell to bits. Personally I quite liked the look of my slightly ratted looking original headlight bracketts, chrome mostly polished up ok but round the corners you could see the rust and where a split had started by an indicator stem, I braze welded it and just cleaned up with a scourer afterwards - you could see the repair if you looked but on a well used machine it looked ok. To me bikes that look like that have their own charm, and its surprising how good pitted chrome can look once polished up. Ok, never going to win a show but parked in a row of classics at your local car and bike classic show it will draw attention as a nice un restored bike. I've seen mine getting as many viewers taking photos in the cast park outside as bikes in the show when mine was my daily rider.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Possibly 500 twin but they would almost certainly be as rare.
They are not easy to get especialy the very early ones with smaller thread for reflectors

I have a 500 with 500T ears on. I will be taking them off shortly to put correct ears on .
Let me know if they are of any use to you .?

There is a difference between CB500K0 which has a 5mm tread for the reflector and a 6mm thread on the CB500K1. The last NOS set i bought were £240  :o

Hi Rich, appreciate the offer.  There is a possibility one of the other forum members has a pair, but I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks

Those look like early small reflector ones which make them a bargain, even with the postage cost!

Yup early ones...
The correct ones for the bike in question..
I thought that even with postage a good deal...always seems a lot though these days.....but the pounds quite good at the moment against the dollar so softens the blow some what
