L/H switch 500K1
« on: March 03, 2019, 11:23:53 AM »
I thought I would start another thread as I found the correct switch (I think) in the box of junk that came with the bike. I don't know if it's worth attempting to refurb it as it's deffo been severely interfered with over the years. It's been rewired by a gorilla and attacked here and there with various dremel tools. That said, everything is there but and can probably be salvaged with a lot of work. I still have the old loom, so could cut that in half and rewire the switch using correct colour codes.

I have attached a few pictures to help and would like your opinions on whether it's doable? You will notice that the body finish is poor and that's to be expected. I assume that can be painted satin black and highlighted in red with a paintbrush. The switch gear itself appears functional but I can test that and know for sure.

The wiring looks as if it's been exiting in two places. Through the side of the body and the end, surely this is wrong? It also looks as if it was designed for solid bars without the hole. Was this standard at the time?

So many questions and not enough knowledge!

They're not easy to find, so I would have a go at a refurb., especially if you are after originality. From what I can see I think that you have already removed the plastic button on the horn/pass. (pic 4) Getting that screw out and the button off in one piece can be tricky. Some of the soldering looks original.

Mick, that looks like a 35200-399-601 fitted to some 125s. Did it come with the leads terminated with a connector? I have one.

Hi Mick, it is similar but not the same switch. The one I have has HM 10QB T stamped under the indicator switch. What does your have Mick?

hi it has the same number stamped on it, possibly refers to the top half casting. the bottom half may be different but the horn switch/ pass mechanism looks the same as my old 500. It may be possible to make one good one out of the two, the wires have been cut off anyway so would need re wiring

Seems that the one Mick has is not matching the lower half. The 10QB I have is designed for wiring through the bars. Maybe the 11QB is for surface wiring?
