Cruzimage Postage & customs charges
« on: March 22, 2019, 10:23:54 AM »
Can anyone advise what the postage charges and customs costs are when buying carb kits from Cruzimage?

Many thanks

As a rough guide, postal charges, customs charges and Parcel force kidnap charges work out about 35% on top of the goods. But, if it's just a carb kit, it may be under the duty threshold anyway. They are great kits from Cruzin and worth every penny, or Yen 😀
Edit....tells you all the figures here

Parcel force send you a bill through the post, which includes all costs, you just pay it on line and the goods are delivered to you usually the next day. Parcel force collect any duties, VAT etc on behalf of HMRC

I've had four orders from Cruzinimage (two over £80 value). All have got through with no tax. I've ALWAYS been taxed on shipments from USA. ebays Global shipping (which Cruzin do not use) collects the tax up front and seems to be cheaper...no Royal mail admin charge.

The "official" way it is worked out is:-

Import tax is 3% of goods PLUS postage

Add vat of 20% on the above

Add post office/ courier charge, used to be £8 but i think its now £11.

In theory there is a value below which no charge is made, but only on gifts not purchases and UPS ALWAYS puts on a charge.

I think only once, we have been lucky enough to not incur Duty charges from Parcelfarce on goods that should have had duty due to the price of the goods. It was a bank holiday and we think it just missed the usual customs shenanigans and got delivered straight here. I would be a very happy bunny if it happened like that every time as we usually place a big order with Cruzin every couple of weeks. I don't mind paying duty and VAT, it's the Parcelfarse kidnap charge that makes me mad.

I'm NOT defending Parcelfarce....I have had my fair share of their crap (and they of my hard earned)..........but they are simply acting as an Agent for HM Customs and Excise......and nobody in this life (businesses) does anything for nothing !

What makes my blood boil is how Import Duty and VAT can be charged on old motorcycle parts which were made 50 years ago and sent to the USA, before VAT was even thought of - and are now being brought back into the UK to keep old bikes on the road......and keeping plenty of people in work through supporting the Motorcycle Trade......Mechanics, Painters, Platers, Parts Suppliers, Magazines, Insurers etc etc etc. How can that be right ?

I believe that the annual turnover surrounding Old Motorcycles is about £4 BILLION..........but many British enthusiasts simply won't import parts BECAUSE of the Duty, VAT, Parcelfarce charges and exorbitant shipping costs.

Maybe when #@%$ is finally sorted (hahahahaha) we should concentrate our new found political awareness on getting our MP's/ Government to wake up to this rip off process, and persuade them of the benefits of introducing some well overdue changes.

Having just had a good deal of my tax back (through various local authority/NHS) I'm only too willing to pay some tax. And yes whatever system/country you choose there is ALWAYS a fair degree of wasted money (maybe it was on me!).
#@%$ may abolish the largest free trade area we have access to so we may have duty on stuff from Europe. (Menno look out)
