K1's tank off to Menno
« on: April 11, 2019, 02:07:21 PM »
Sent the K1's tank off to Menno yesterday (Parcelforce via ParcelHero) to be chemically cleaned and the dents repaired in advance of the other bits - the rest will follow in mid-May when I will next get chance to remove the headlight brackets and bowl.

The numerious threads on here and personal recommendations convinced me that Menno was the right man to trust with my paintset and I'm already looking forward to seeing the various stage photos, and it's not even outside the UK yet!

Cheers
Andrew

He's just finished repainting the nose fairing for my CB250RSA (decals by Piki). Excellent work as always 👍.

When my CB750 K3 finally lands in England, the first job is to paint the fuel tank and side panels.
Being new to the forum, who is Menno?
It seems he is well regarded, so contact details would help.
BTW, this is my tank:

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Well, the K1's headlight bowl and brackets are off and packaged along with a left side panel - the right is split in a couple of places and Menno recommended not using it.

This bike is amazing and every bit original and not mucked about with as UKPete and Chris Rushton told me it was - the wiring inside the headlight bowl is not what I expected - it's like new! i.e. the connectors are in great order, the wiring is soft and pliable and the plastic sleeves are not yellow and brittle . A great start!

Not entirely sure how far to go with this bike as it's so original? The tank and panels were beyond being 'survivors', they just existed, so I think having the paintset done may be far enough; the little dings here and there are part of its history.

As I told you Andrew I bought so many nos parts for the bike to do a proper restoration but after many many nights of contemplating a resto,  I decided it would be the wrong choice to mess with such a lovely survivor,

And that's why, apart from the paintset, I will be leaving it pretty much as is Pete and will enjoy riding the old girl.  :)

The danger will be when you put the lovely new paint on the bike.   ;)

So I have this very nice tank here. Paint is faided and some small dents.
Nothing very worrying.

However...
Since this is the original paint. Original handpainted lining as well.
I am convinced this tank has been painted at the factory.

How difficult can painting candy ruby red be?
