Only Candy Antares and Parakeet Yellow are F2 colors. Light Ruby Red is an early model colour along with Varnish Blue. No cross over of colors from the F's to the F2's.

Yes Ross, if yours is an F2 it should be Candy Antares Red. No problem with the log book. Is yours an original UK bike or an import? Not that that makes any difference to the color. Is it definitely an F2?. What is the year of manufacturer?

Well yours is only about 900 off the production line later than mine 😀. Production finished in late 1977 anyway , so both yours and mine are late 1977 manufactured. Mine is a August 78 reg on a T and a UK bike like yours.

Hello, what other than the 78 reg makes you think the the bike should be other than the red? I think a lot of bikes sat around in boxes waiting to be sold. All of the candy and yellow new bikes I seen in shops had a speedo with mph and a green inner kph gauge fitted. I have 77  S plate in blue came with only a mph speedo....cheers Dave

Hi Dave My question was My bike is ruby red As a f2 model should it be Antares Red As the f2 I've seen seem to be either Antares Red or Parakeet Yellow  My speedo also only in MPH Is yours a f2 if so it blows my theory out of the water Although Nurse Julie seems to agree Mine should be Antares   Ross

The problem with 40+ year old bikes are things get damaged/ broken/ wear out. Unless they could afford new spares many people would buy secondhand from breakers etc. So an F1 Speedo and tank is not any big surprise it they have got damaged/Rusted out etc

Interesting. I have never, ever seen an original UK CB400/4 with anything other than MPH and KMH clocks fitted. I have seen USA imports with only MPH clocks fitted though. I can't recall seeing a Varnish blue S reg in the UK either. Maybe i just haven't noticed though 🤔

Hello Ross, unless you know the person who originally bought the bike you will never be 100% sure of the original colour. I would say given you have a mph speedo red is original. I may be wrong on the speedo but I’m sure I’m not  8).......cheers  Dave

Ross, if your VIN number is CB400F2******* , which you have already said, it is definitely an F2 which the red is Candy Antares.

My Blue bike now has a Speedo face of a yellow bike that came Canada. I always liked the idea of having both after a trip to the south of France with only mph....cheers Dave
