USA or UK
« on: May 17, 2019, 03:23:37 PM »
Gents,

I am going to look at a 1976 CB750K6 tomorrow, and although it appears to have been restored correctly, how can I tell if it is a USA import, or a genuine UK bike ?

Your help would be appreciated.

Bob

My experience generally:

- USA import has identification label in steering head (right side), including mfg date, while European ones does have them on right side of the frame, next to side cover
- US import shall have stock high bars

I strogly recommend to study this site, there are all small importnat details to see if bike is stock/genuine or not. But, there are US models only

Erny,

Thanks for your reply and the link. Do you have a link to a better, more comprehensive, and more accurate list please ?

Only joking, that must be the most comprehensive site ever. Thanks, that`s a great help, going to see the bike tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Bob

We had the K6 model in the UK. We have one. Edit...2 actually 🙄🙄🙄
The switch gear is also different on UK bikes. Quite a few differences actually, thinking about it. There are a few USA K6's around that have been restored and made to look like UK models to gain a better price. Look at the log book, it will tell you if its a 1st registered UK bike or an import.

If you go onto the DVLA website - https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ViewVehicle and fill in the bike's registration it will give you the date when the bike was first registered - from this you can tell from its year whether it was registered in the UK or overseas.

Good luck with the viewing.

Cheers

Hi, are you buying to ride or as a money making venture? If its the former, as long as the price is right why worry, they are all genuine Honda’s  :). Seriously though, the frame vin plate is the big giveaway, and the V5 of course... but a determined restorer can easily remove the expensive chromed components off a usa bike and replace them with the cheaper painted components off a uk model.   ;)

Much easier to get a cheap chrome tail light bracket as, there are loads about and you can get repro yank chrome ones for years now. The UK tail light bracket is rare to get hold of and that is why anyone trying to make a yank bike look like a UK one will, always have the wrong bracket and usually the wrong mudguard. The UK K6 rear mudguard is unique to the UK market.

Guys,

Thanks for the help. I`ve just checked the DVLA website and it turns out it`s a UK bike after all, so happy days.

Hopefully tomorrow night I will be able to post that I have been successful and bought it. I`ll keep you all informed.

Bob
