400/4 coil
« on: November 10, 2008, 04:32:51 PM »
Hello all, just registered today, my 77 400/4 has got a misfire, no spark to no's 2 and 3 cyls, suspect coil failure, it has got Pirhana electronic ign, has anyone got a spare coil that they would be willing to sell please ? I am in the North west area, and could pick up locally. Would like to hear from anyone in the area who has a scimillar bike.
Regards to all Ianmck

More likely to be the pirahna playing up than the coil mate, have you got the bits to re-convert to points?

I've got a spare backplate off my 550 which may be the same.

Hello bryanj, had a look at your reply a little earlier, got me thinking, so just did some checks:- wiring continuity etc, all OK, then swapped LT wiring (from pirhana) from 1 & 4 coil to 3 & 4 coil, now have good spark at 2 & 3 plugs and non on 1 & 4 plugs, so it looks like you might be right, fault possibly in ign system. So now have to decide wether to go back to points, or new ign system. Ho Hum.
Thank you for your help, and thanks for replying to my message, I'll let you know how I get on.

If you decide on an electronic ignition replacement I recommend the Dyna S system, I  got mine from the US for  60 odd quid and it all fits behind the  points cover.

Cheers

cheers Dave, thanks for your advice, not sure what to do as yet, may re-fit points and condensor and back plate, due to cost, cos i'm trying to save some cash for cb 750 ?  cheers Ian
