400/4 Front Brake
« on: June 24, 2019, 09:10:52 PM »
Help needed again.
My brother and I have both got 400/4s. When the front brake pad is removed from the piston side, one 400 has a square section nylon? ring sat between the piston and pad, the other 400 doesn't. I can't find any reference to this part. Should it be there or not? Can anyone enlighten me please? TIA.
John

Yes.
Some pad suppliers include it.
Not sure what it does.

It's an attempt to reduce brake squeal!

If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

I was going to tackle this job lunchtime but the sky is leaking badly so I took the car.  I'm going to wrap PTFE tape round the edge of the pad.  I'll report back when I've done it.
Bloody brake sounds like a pig in agony.  I don't like using it.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

I use copper grease on the rear of the pad and around the edges.

Seems to work. If I get squeal it's at low speed.

Then I use the brake hard to clean the faces. And the disc.

Done all that last week, John but the squeal has returned.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?
