Primary chains,
« on: July 13, 2019, 07:02:51 PM »
I have 3 + engines to build and will be looking for primary chains, but before going to too much expence is thete a way of measuring my old ones, I will definitely be looking for one set for the sandcast, the others might be in spec,  any advice appreciated

Hi Pete
I'm sure someone will be along with a definitive answer shortly. In the mean time I have earmarked this for my own forthcoming rebuild. Its a bit long winded but gives you the idea.

In the great scheme of things on a full engine overhaul, a new set of primary chains is a very worthwhile investment.

I plan on replacing mine along with the tensioner....not because they are worn...but because it seems silly NOT to replace them while I have the cases apart. New bearings, rubbers and camchain/tensioner as well...again...because the prospect of starting the motor up first time to hear rattling chains doesn't appeal.

I ended it early Pete as I was out and it would have just been our luck that it got bought by somebody else... it was on a £1 max. fees listing so knock that off too and the PayPal fees as long as you pay the missus on PayPal Friends and Family
