Cb175 voltage regs?
« on: July 23, 2019, 09:52:21 AM »
Can anyone explain why. The European market 175 had a voltage regulator.
When the US market bike didn't?

Maybe because the US version had rge lights on permanently so didn't need a regulator because the alternator is going flat out anyway.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

That is indeed a possibility.
It's just that both me and a mate have US market CB, s neither of them charge.
But my UK bike charges fine.

It is the same function as A Zener diode Bryan but a much more precise cut off voltage using a 'crowbar' electronic circuit potted in resin.Nothing to stop fitting the unit from  a CB175 or CB250/350  to any single phase alternator old Honda that doesn't have the regulator... like the CB450K0 for example

Thats what i thought Ash, so if the US ones dont charge it has to be a stator fault or witing connection fault, unless the magnetism on the rotor has done a runner

I reckon on a lot of older Honda's (Bomber 450 is a prime example) the loss of magnetism with age is a big factor in lack of charging Bryan
