Oil Pressure Switch
« on: July 29, 2019, 04:33:02 PM »
Your input would be appreciated with my problem. Before starting my 750 K1 from cold, the oil light is not illuminating, but when it is warmed up after a run the light works normally, i.e. switch the engine off with the kill switch and the light comes on, start it up again and the light goes out immediately. With the engine cold and ignition on, i can take the cable off the pressure switch and touch it to earth and the light will illuminate, so it looks like the switch is faulty.
My question is can the switch be dissmantled and fixed, at the moment finances are a bit tight.

NO its a non servicable sealed part im afraid. Be carefull of generic ones that may be designed for car use as they work at a different pressure.

Don't buy a genuine Honda one P/N 37240 P13 013 as, they have been superseded and a different size so, the rubber cap doesn't fit  ;) ;)

Bryan said that some generic ones for cars operate at a different pressure.
The Honda ones were superseded and on the 750 the rubber cover is too lose and rattles about. I could not find any in the UK for the 750 that were the correct size and correct operating pressure so, I have to ship them in from the States for customers engines.

P/N  37240 P13 013 is OK on the rest of the SOHC's as they don't have a cover.

Mine does the same as yours Adespin….. its a bit worrying at first but Im now getting used to the fact that it only works after first start up.... I would like to think that if the pressure did fail during running the light would illuminate. Probably the best solution would be to fit a pressure gauge on the end of the oil gallery as many users do.... its an easy enough modification but does spoil the looks a bit.
