Switch wire coverings
« on: August 02, 2019, 09:56:23 PM »
I've done a quick search of the site but TBH I think it's more the way you phrase the search that helps.

So here's what I'm after.

I've finally started to pull apart my CB500 after 30 years of storage, I've decided to strip down all the parts which I'm having re-chromed, so I started on the handlebars which are reasonably well preserved but could do with being made to look like new again.

So off with the bars and then I have to get the wires out of the middle of them, I'm using CB550F2 switches along with the loom and I'd forgotten just how enormously long the switch wires are as they go right down to the coil area. Wires are still excellent but the plastic covering has seen better days, I had a right job getting the first one out especially where the covering had cracked and broke in two. So has anyone found a source to replace this covering, it's really just a simple plastic tube to protect the wires from chaffing, I mean I could just wrap them in insulation tape but I'd sooner not if an aftermarket source has been found.

So anyone know where I can get some?

yes. For example https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32906103672.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.2e1944f5xnXAP5&algo_pvid=40ee955c-44b3-42b7-9ae4-fb48bc52379f&algo_expid=40ee955c-44b3-42b7-9ae4-fb48bc52379f-3&btsid=fc8f4720-9506-49c1-86bf-6f0525785781&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_8,searchweb201603_52

or search other - non heat-shrinkable

only small drawback are lables along the sleeve...
Some time ago I found black sleeve in Czech republic for my other old motobike Jawa 350, will try to find old info, maybe it is still available. That one has no labels, just pure black

Sure BigAl has a website but can't remeber what it is now, plus he's local to me. I need to see if he sells some spade connectors etc

Erny, thanks for the link, looks like this could be a good alternative if I can't find some in the UK, I can live with the writing if I have to as most of it is inside the bars anyway.

Erny, found some in the UK, all you need is the correct terminology to search on E-Bay, tried Non-Heatshrink sleeving and just got lots of heatshrink, so using the link you gave me I tried "Black PVC Sleeving Flexible PVC Cable Sleeving" and found some, just need to measure the internal ID now and I'll be good to go.

If you dont mind buying from a Yamaha specialist in the Netherlands, this is good stuff. Black is only in 10 and 20mm dia, and is unmarked.
