what about the 250s/350s/360s?

I know this will make me appear particularly sad, but the site's title is SOHC not Honda 4 ;D. I have just bought a CL360 engine as the basis or a classic off roader because I want to replace my BSA B40 (I have never really got to grips with imperial thread and spanner sizes, or indeed the Exxon Valdez size oil slicks that appear under the bike :-[) )And as usual I am starting with a box of bits and know nothing about this model, does anybody else on the forum own one of these more desirable SOHC twins  ;) whos brain I can pick? And any interest in having a "twins" section?

cheers

Sounds interesting to me, I've got a cb250 sohc, but I suspect that if things open up too much we'll run out of capacity............

I also have a 450 Honda twin (Superdream) and it

The CB250 and 360 G5 engines were the follow up to the K series engines.

The main criticism of the K engines was that you could not remove the cylinder head without removing the engine from the frame. Which, from experience, was true.

The G5 engines had a split head where the rocker arms were in a separate part which bolted onto the head over the valves and the springs. This meant that it could be removed from the head thus giving enough space to allow the head to be removed from the engine whilst still in the frame.

Great in principle, but the top part was attached to the head with tiny bolts which people tended to overtighten and strip the threads leading to huge oil leaks. Which again, from experience, was true.

If the engine hasn't been apart all should be well but if it has been dismantled before watch out for oil leaks from the head which can be expensive and difficult to fix.

Other big problem was nobody cleaned out the centrifugal oil filter on the RH end of crank inside the clutch cover as the labour time was high and customers wouldnt pay.

Then it blocks and starves the cam and it siezes which of course is all Honda's fault and it gets an "unreliable" image.

Worked on lots and found em great if serviced right BUT ALWAYS let em' warm up before riding/thrashing as if you dont you will shatter piston rings----holds true for the "K" model as well
