Correct K1 Rubber Carb Dust Boots?
« on: August 11, 2019, 10:05:10 AM »
My original 11/70 K1 is fitted with black rubber carb dust boots, but carb boots 1 & 4 are perished and I sought a supplier of the plain black ones. I was advised the original K1 rubber carb dust boots were the ones with the painted red moulded circle.

However, I've since noticed that James' original 5,000 mile 3/71 K1 is also fitted with plain black dust boots, presumably since new. An original K1 sales brochure shows plain black boots fitted.

Grateful for some definitive advice and a lead to a supplier of the plain black boots as I'd like my K1 to be correct.

Thanks,
Andrew

All the ones I have seen have the red. Have seen old ones were the red paint has come off on the rubbers and the caliper  ;)

Maybe the plain black ones were fitted to the later KOs and the K1 as the only black ones I've seen have been on unrestored survivor bikes likes James', mine and in the sales brochures?

If I can't find a supplier of plain black ones, then I'll just move the good plain black ones from  2 & 3 to 1 & 4 and replace with red painted moulded circle ones available from DS.

Bugger, I'm sounding like a rivet counter........ ::) .....I'm not like this with my Z900!  ???

Nowt wrong with counting rivets....as long as it doesn't get in the way of riding 😀😀😀 I'm wondering if there was a difference with the red painted circle between UK and USA models? Can't see why but, can't see why not either...there were lots of subtle differences in the specs / models.

Interestingly both the UK and US K1 sales brochures show plain rubber dust boots.

The only boots available from DS have a moulded circle painted red, which may be for the later K series.

It is distinctly possible that Honda just superceeded the part ising a different supplier and as it was an identical fit did not alter part number, stranger things have happened.
