For those that like this era of road racing this is a really good short film,  principally Agostini but so many other characters also.

Good footage of Phil Read on MV some great sound track too on surely one of the best looking bikes on the planet.

Great video, those MV's were certainly special looking and sounding machines, I can remember going to the TT in 1970, we got off the boat and proceeded to Quarter Bridge where the road was closed for practice. As we stood there two MV's (3 cylinder) and two Bennelli's (fours) came thundering down from Bray Hill, I'd never heard anything like it it was fantastic, though the Honda six was probably the best sounding bike I have ever heard.

Get yourselves along to the Classic TT week after next to see these bikes running in the flesh. Superb, but take your ear plugs as the MV four is louder than the end of the world.

I would love to go to the Classic but it's got that expensive that it is a non starter, the days of strapping a tent and sleeping bag to the back seat of my old A65 and setting off for a week at the TT are long gone. We used to do the TT and Manx every year from 1970 to 1978, the later was our honeymoon ! Nothing to do with a Certain Mike Hailwood of course.
The last time I heard an MV four was at Brands in around 1974 when a gaggle of us all on CB750's went down to Brands for the day to watch the racing, that was a pretty good trip from where we live on the Wirral.

Cheers

I went to Mallory Park to see the MV's of Phil Read and Gianfranco Bonera in the Race of the Year Not sure exactly which year, around 1974, I have the programme somewhere. The MV wasn't as competitive any more (Ago turned up on a 500cc Yamaha!), Read said he didn't care as he liked the noise it made.

I had been flooded out of my tent in the early hours, and spent a miserable night with some other soggy refugees in a toilet block.

The memorable highlight for me was the Dagenham Girl Pipers on the start line being completely drowned out by the pair of MVs when the mechanics started to warm them up. I legged it over the bridge and into the paddock, standing behind them probably did as much damage to my hearing as Black Sabbath live.

Something else I just remembered was the John Player cigarette girls, basically models with a tray full of fags, giving them out free to anyone who wanted one. I don't think they'd get away with that sort of marketing these days, even Ago's bike was painted as a Marlboro packet.
