Tank Badge Clips - use or not?
« on: August 21, 2019, 02:04:17 PM »
I've bought these little tank badge clips in prep for fitting the new bages to my K1's tank - it's just as well my eyesight cleared up!  ???

What is the general view, are these more trouble than they're worth (i.e. are they likely to stop badge sitting flat against the tank) or should I just use an adhesive of some sort?

Any 'top tips' for fitting the tank badges?

Thanks,
Andrew

The tank & Badges are designed to use the clips.
They work together well.

I used them and they do work well, much neater and better than double sided tape. Try not to bend the badge which is quite soft and easy to get out of shape.

Before placing the clips; first look how the badges follow the line of the tank.
Sometimes they need adjusting (bending a bit).
When the badge is perfect in line; first place the clips then press the badges in place.

Yes I know.. but quite a few people put the clips on the badge and then try to get the badges on  - because that is also how the got the badges off.. with the clips still on the badge.

Many thanks and I'm grateful for all your advice.

I fitted the tank clips this afternoon, but soon discovered that despite having established a badge good fit to the tank without them, when I tried to fit the badges the clips threw out the centres on the pegs which meant I had to remould the badges to the tank, then I needed too much nervy pressure to try to get the badge to insert into the clips and the risk of bending the badge or damaging the newly painted tank was too great......

So at this point I'm considering using a dab of Tiger Seal which is a sealant/adhesive that I use on my TRs that remains flexible, doesn't set rock hard: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adhesive-Sealant-Tigerseal-Panels-Cartridges/dp/B01AAN6LC2/ref=asc_df_B01AAN6LC2/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310668964056&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2570955706201362914&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045761&hvtargid=pla-699947872758&psc=1

For the time being I'm putting the tank back in its box and will not return to it for a while - tomorrow I will strip out the electrics behind the left hand side panel, clean up all the connectors, wiring and components and reassemble.
