Looks really nice, EXCEPT that number plate, just looks so wrong black and silver on a 400/4, especially as the rest of the bike looks so stock.

True but I like the old style plate and it’s legal for that year of bike.

;) not wanting to be a kill joy but to me the plate looks to big for the bike and i thought the cut off point for that colour plate was 1974
be sure you have insurance until your tax is up or the nice people at the DVLA will send you some nasty letters anyway enjoy riding

As long as its registered as Historic it can display black and white plates. This is a rolling entitlement as is the historic status.

as long as it's pre jan 1975 which this is so its as would have been originally fitted

Nope, that has been changed and any bike registered as historic can display a black / white/ silver plate.
Last part of Section 7. DVLA INFO SHEET 104

Traditional number plates for vehicles made
before 1 January 1973
Vehicles made before 1 January 1973 may display traditional
‘black and white’ number plates (for example, white, silver or
grey characters on a black plate). From April 2019 vehicles
manufactured before 1 January 1979 are also able to display
traditional ‘black and white’ number plates. You must:
• have applied to DVLA
• be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.
The 40-year exemption date rolls forward automatically each
year on 1 April.
