Has anyone ever heard of brake pistons made from Phenolic, or is it just me that has never heard of them?

Yep, phenolic resin, there was a guy on the U.S. Site used to machine down GM car brake pistons to fit our Honda's, synthetic plastic, doesn't corrode, so should never seize!

Ah, ok. There is a chap selling them in USA and says they will last forever, will not transfer heat from the pad to the fluid and are a fraction of the weight. $44 though + post.

I think so. Phenolic resin bonded cotton weave.  Coarse weave for strength like above,  fine weave gives more machinability and precision like the brake pistons.

Also all the brown coloured circuit boards are generally made of the same. Often called "mica"

PCBs are either fibre glass or SRBP;  synthetic resin bonded paper. Not to be confused with the cotton filled stuff that sprockets are made of.
