Exhaust Collet/Clamp advice
« on: September 21, 2019, 11:53:39 AM »
Took the exhaust off to clean it and had the collets blasted due to lack of chrome lol, what’s the best high temperature paint to use for painting them.
Ive also sent the carbs off to Bergen in Holland for the full works so I’m not in a rush.

If you don't mind an alloy color paint finish, the Simoniz VHT paint looks great on them. Very hard wearing also due to oven curing. It's SIMVHT31D. Also, it doesn't cost much to have them re chromed but the rust usually starts showing quite quickly due to the original wrinkled nature of the collars.

All depends on the paint you are using but with the Simoniz VHT, warm them bare on a very low heat for 10 mins and then apply 3 very thin coats about 20-30 mins apart to build up, stand the can in hot water before and between each coat as the paint goes on better. Air cure for a minimum of 24 hours before final curing in the oven. Start oven off low and gradually (over ½ hour) increase to 220°c and cook overall for 1.5 hours. It does give instructions on back of tin.

Haha, no, you should be ok with the pepperoni, but I'm not sure about a Hawaiian 😀😀😀 Joking aside, for those of you that use the wifes appliances for bike stuff, with the baking of parts just make sure you have all the windows / doors open. The smell goes away fairly quick but it is a real strong acrid smell that some wives just can't get their noses tuned into for some reason 🙄🙄🙄 Luckily our parts / engine casing oven is in the workshop, so Trig can cook to his hearts content without me whinging and whining 🤣🤣🤣

My original 10th anniversary t-shirt. If you look closely you can see the battery acid splash holes

Cooked to perfection, though as Julie says it can get a bit smelly, I used VHT Engine enamel, and don't confuse fahrenheit with centigrade otherwise it goes yellow as I found out.

Well of course you have to have a clean oven, you wouldn't want to tarnish a good cylinder head would you? With regards to the needs of the inner man all one needs is:- Freezer/microwave/frying pan, or a good local pub.
