350f carb synch probs ..1 bad egg!
« on: October 19, 2019, 09:18:53 PM »
was chasing the ubiquitous throttle flat spot on my 350f  ( still chasing it)  and I just couldnt get the no.4 carb to settle to the same vacuum setting as its 3 brothers .  as meatloaf song says" 3 out  of 4 aint bad " But not for my 350f !  so off  came the carbs yet again .... and I inspected the actual mechanism that works the slides ... particularly in no.4 ..couldnt detect any difference between all of them, wear  foriegn body. jammed slide  etc  . I could adjust 3 slides to fully closed but not no.4, it remained slightly  open .. then it happened ...I felt movement..  not a lot, so  i wiggled all the carbs on the mounting plate and no.4 was slightly loose .so I re tightened the 8 large phillips head screws that hold the carb bodies to the mounting plate and bingo! i now have identical adjustment on all 4 slides..  seems like the return spring tension was able to move the loose carb just enough to prevent the slide closing fully on adjustment  hope this info is of use to someone,  cheers  Mike   in NZ
