Boyer micro ignition
« on: October 20, 2019, 01:32:11 PM »
Just installed this ign (using stock coils), first results are promising. My strobe light failed, so cannot set it finally, but will go for test ride.

Those you have this installed (Paul?), where you placed your unit on the bike? Looks to me good place is on battery, but will require some additional work while removing or changing battery.

My strobe light failed...
Have you tried flipping that inductive pick-up. There's polarity to be observed!

I have had my homebuilt ign located there for decades (see pic). There's quite some space between the battery and the sidepanel. Well shielded and no vibrations. I usually have to renew the battery every seven years, so no big problem.

I changed for the full kit inc the micro coils so mounted the box above the original coil mounting bracket and used some aluminium section for the new coils so different set up to yours
If you think there's light at the end of the tunnel it's usually another train !!

I copied Paul’s installation and put the Boyer unit under the tank with the new micro coils bolted on alongside.

I place is practically identically as you, first try was also under rubber band but as I'm not sure I'll keep it after testing and do not want to make band too big, decided to use cable ties aroud battery.

Ad strobe - it was working first few seconds then died (light only)...

After testing (170km today):
On postitive side:
- despite no chance to set it by strobe, engine starts and runs well, revs very good.
- seems previous issue in low RPM is almost gone (weak springs on advancer?)

On negative:
- seems to me this ignition consumes more energy (like well known Dyna-S), 0.5-0.7 less voltage with this ignition. Anyone can confim?

some very nice mountings there,

I mounted mine on the LH downtube, along side the horn,

you could try adjusting the timing this way,

warm the motor, then loosen the fibre disc, and move anti clock wise ,the engine revs may rise, see how it runs and starts .

the Boyer has an automatic advance/retard .

when you strobe it,do it at 4,500 rpm

Didn't you observe higher power consumption after its installation?
