Silencer options
« on: October 22, 2019, 08:24:19 PM »
Evening all. I have my exhaust system off my 400/4 at the moment and on closer inspection I realise the silencer is quite badly rotting near the collecter box. Also when you move it it rattles, which I’m assuming is the baffles breaking up inside.
Am wondering is it worth getting the rotting part welded or braised and maybe get some more miles out of it or would the rattling noise make it unusable soon?
I see Silvers make a silencer, has anybody any experience of them and would it fit my existing down pipes / collecter Box? My exhaust has Sandtek 2002 stamped on it.
Thanks in advance.

Silvers don't make the silencer, they just sell it. It's a Brituro. I and many others have this silencer fitted and they are great. I think you will find Silver is out of stock but here is a link to them for sale in Ebay. To be honest, these replacements are far superior to the original and fit perfectly. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-400-4-CB400-4-Four-Silencer-UK-Made-/332755695012

Thanks Julie. Yes Silvers are out of stock. The EBay link is that to Brituro as they are showing out of stock as well? It does sound ideal though, thanks once again Julie for your quick reply.

The link on Ebay is to a supplier called BSA 111 that sell the Brituro silencers ( and a lot of other parts for all bikes). Now, I'm not 100% sure what is or has happened to Brituro. They are actually registered as Company Dissolved and have not been seen on Facebook since 2016. I don't know if BSA 111 are / have sold off Brituro old stock and now run out or if BSA 111 have bought the jigs etc abd are now manufacturing them. It may be worth a call to BSA 111 and asking if they are getting any more stock in.
Here is a link to another company that sold it also but, they are out of stock as well🤔

Yamiya have them in stock still...but they aren't cheap...about 250€ plus shipping and import duties etc. I wonder if Yamiya bought the jigs from Brituro 🤔🤔🤔

I tested out a Yamiya system for importers Saisei a couple of years back .. down-pipes were single skinned ( after this Yamiya put on their website single skinned) and not a good fit  and silencer was made by Brituro in Brum, the same as the David Silver ones but hugely expensive after shipping and import duties. A member on here had returned the lot to Dave @ Saisei saying the downpipes/collector box assembly was a poor fit.

Search facility on here is excellent !

Thanks Ash. My down pipes and collector box are in pretty good shape, it’s just the silencer that’s not so good but the Yamiya silencer is very expensive. Will have a ring round and see if the links that Julie sent me are expecting any in stock any time soon.

Depending on whether you want 100% originality, or fairly close, there is a USA company called 2FAST MOTO who are selling Dunstall look-alikes. The reviews seem to indicate good fit and quality but a touch loud. They are advertising on Ebay.com, and if I've read it right, just over 200 Dollars(US) including shipping will buy you 2. Depends on how close you are to "any port in a storm" situation. Regards, Michael.

Mine is in bad shape, too... it's broken all the way 'round, I think the baffles are the only thing holding it together!

I guess I'll be looking further for someone to repair mine, since new ones seem to be so hard to find...

Looks like they offer them in singles, too:

I imagine that there would be no mounting provision for the center stand rubber "bumper" pad...

Thanks for all your replies. The Brituro one that Julie suggests sounds ideal for me, good fit and good price, it’s just finding one! Will look into getting it repaired in the meantime.
