Any members from Iceland.
« on: November 13, 2019, 06:28:46 AM »
Just wondering if there are any members who live in Iceland. Or anybody who has done a bike trip there.

Looking for some road info.

Thanks Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Been to Iceland a couple of times but not with a bike.  Main roads are very good, well surfaced and signed but away from those they use a lot of volcanic gravel which could be a challenge on 2 wheels.  We did a circular clockwise tour from Reykjavik and back over a week or so on our second visit.  Plenty to see and do, food and accommodation good. You can sing Vera Lynn songs as you travel - ‘Whale meat again?’

The old 400 gets everywhere. Do post some photos.

Is this of any use?

Hi Kevin.
I went on a bike tour to Iceland about 6 years ago. A group of us went in June for the longest day. The sun never actually set, very strange to see!
Although it was mid June all the interior roads were still closed due to flooding. We stuck to the main roads around the island and these were in very good condition and hardly any traffic. The main roads have service stations a bit like motorway service stations where you can eat (although menu is very limited). As Ian has said previously, there is a lot to see and do.
Two warnings, Iceland is mega, mega expensive for everything from accommodation to food and drink, £9 for a pint of beer! A mate went in September this year, a taxi from the airport to his hotel was £90 for a 25 minute journey 😮!

Hi Guys, many thanks for the info and link etc.

Yes have been checking out the crazy prices over there, even worse for me with SA Rand..!

Wanted to try to save a bit and not have to buy another bike just for a few weeks trip and then sell it on return, as i have a perfect CB400F in the UK kitted out for travel. it's already done South Africa, USA, Canada, Europe, Ireland UK etc.

Have paid a deposit for the ferry, so we are going around end of August next year. will take some pics.
