Needle position confusion
« on: December 19, 2019, 07:48:24 AM »
Just waiting for my carbs from Gerben to arrive but am having trouble finding a definitive answer on clip position.

I have searched around and can’t seem to find a definitive answer for standard bikes and seems USA and Europe may even have had different settings

He sets them on position 4 and says this is Honda standard but I have found posts that suggest middle position is standard.

Bike is completely standard ‘71 K0
If you think there's light at the end of the tunnel it's usually another train !!

I have mine set second down from the top, I have type 069 carbs, standard 98 main jets and pod filters and all is well. If you are not sure I would go for the middle position.

Middle (3rd) position was standard with the airscrews out 1 turn ± 1/8. According to an in 1977 (!) edited booklet by American Honda Co. Ltd, US had 4th groove from top and the airscrews 2 turns out. I don't know what brassware Gerben uses: OEM or aftermarket.

Normally Gerben uses only OEM brass. (as he confirmed to me)
Mine are 022A 4th groove 550K1, main 100, idle 38 as stock. But I'm not sure this is the best.
