Mecum Auctions Las Vegas 2020
« on: December 25, 2019, 08:16:50 PM »
Some nice bikes at Mecum auctions in Las Vegas next month including a CB450 with 'D' kit and a nice '69 CL450.

I tried copying hi-res images of an early S90 they have but I can't  suss how to do it so I just took screenshots,  which are OK but nowhere near the resolution of the originals. Can anyone figure out how to do it? The pictures will make a great restoration reference for the early one I am restoring.

Hi Ash
There’s lots of nice looking restored bikes and decent project bikes on there.

Just out of interest, has anyone on the forum ever bought direct from auction in the USA and if so did they find the experience straightforward and cost effective? 🤔

I had an early S90 in the late 70's that I made into an off road bike for a neighbour's 12 year old son cut a huge chunk from the spine frame to lower the seat height - Sacrilege! Please don't ban me from the site!

No not personally but some of the prices are really attractive and the quality top notch. Of course there are buyers premiums and shipping, taxes, hassle etc. to factor in... I guess David Silver gets quite a few of his import bikes from there and sells quite a few there too. JamesH is probably the best person on here to give a view on the practicality/economics.

The two 450s are very nice, in my opinion the CL would look a lot better for a new set of cables, my original grey ones had gone that dirty rust colour, too. They aren't easy to find though, particularly the front brake cable with built in stop light switch.

What the hell is it with CL450's and fork caps? This time the offside one is the wrong way round, the second one this month. If it wasn't for the unimpeachable advice I got on this board I'd start to wonder if it was me doing it wrong.

I like the S90, so much better looking in 'sports' trim without the Cub footboard / fairing thing. By the way, it reminds me, back in the late 70's a friend of mine had a Honda 50cc CR110 race bike, a little silver jewel of a thing, worth relatively little at the time, as it was uncompetitive with modern bikes and before Classic racing really became a thing. With gear driven twin cams, 8 speed box and 4 valves, it would no doubt be worth a fortune now. I think you could just buy them from a dealer and go club racing. Mecum have a CR93 roadster, the super rare road going version of the 125cc production racer. https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0120-392727/1963-honda-cr-93/

1974 Kawasaki Z1A
2005 Harley XL1200R Sportster
1985 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Sport

Dave - I think my eyes are going, but when you refer to the fork caps what is it that’s wrong? I can’t spot it???

Look close at the pictures that show the forks on the right hand side. The gap between the fork cap and the slider should be at the rear, not the front. It should work the same, but road crap will get in the gap.

See this thread, appropriately in Anorak's Corner:
