K1 Update - forks on and fitted up!
« on: January 24, 2020, 02:36:44 PM »
Well, it may be taking more time than I want but over the last few weeks the forks have been off and on more times than a tarts draws! However, I have now finally fitted the headlight brackets, forks on and the headlight. Equally as frustrating (for me) as fitting the headlight brackets (new paint anxiety!) was working out how the chrome rings held the gaiters on place on the brackets (even more new paint anxiety!), this took me ages to figure out but in the end was quite simple with the help of my wife's Nicky Clarke hair dryer; even that was ruby red!! 8)

I'm pleased with the results so far and my K1 is now starting to look like a bike again. Thanks for all the advice which helped me get this far.

Wow Andrew. The bike looks great.
You certainly give those of us less able, skilled and knowledgable something to aspire to.
I can only hope that my project can come somewhere close to the standard of yours.

Thanks for your positive comments and encouragement, much appreciated - next jobs are balance the carbs and new tyres, probably Dunlops, I haven't decided yet.

Working with Menno's new paint caused a lot of tense moments which I refer to as 'new paint anxiety' and caused me to walk away from the bike on several occasions for sometimes days at a time (I didn't want another bloody stroke!! ;D). There's only so long I can hold my breath and count to 100 at the same time when fitting up the petrol cap lock and hinges, tank badges/trim and side panel emblems and of course the headlight brackets etc.

Julie you are right, working on the K1 has been great physical and occupational therapy which will hopefully stand me in good stead for when I return to work (hopefully in mid-Feb/early Mar now); although recent talk has been about a medical discharge which is not how I want to retire.

Paul, I thought maybe I would have problems fitting the headlight and trim to the bowel but it fitted straight on without any need for wet & dry or paint chipping off. Nice job Menno!

Oggie, I have no particular skills just what seems to be an exhausting approach to detail, a lot of patience (very tested) and time whilst I'm recovering my health.

Cheers,
Andrew
