Speedo conversion to kph.
« on: January 25, 2020, 10:14:44 PM »
Beginning to tire of constantly doin’ the math as I drive about a kph country on my mph clocks. Lecram kindly provided me K2 kph faces when I bought new crimp rings, and perhaps the time has come for the change over.
Except I’ve just realised the trip & odometer will still be in miles. Dang.
Anyone know where the difference is... ie within the instrument or speedo drive?
An easy fix... obtainable parts etc?
(I assume the needle will continue to read correctly; as simply against a different linear scale.)
Ta,
Simon

Perhaps a recalibration would do it, or perhaps one of the mechanical speedo healers. Think they are available in mph to kph.
May be a bit fussy to read as KPM clocks have more numbers on the dials

Tired of having to do mental arithmetic every time the speed limit changed, I sent my CB750 clocks to cb750faces (board sponsors) who converted the speedo properly.

They reset the mileometer as well, so you can convert you kmage into mileage.

It cost a bit, but I was very happy with the result.

Thanks all for your inputs... amazingly I’ve since located a ratty K2 KPH speedo not far away from me here in QLD at £145 or thereabouts. I’m considering it, but as Seamus pointed out, the face does look a bit bloody cluttered. Thanks also Bryan, Davo & Cooler - appreciated.

There are mechanical drives on the market that change KPH to MPH so maybe there are some that do the reverse?

...thanks Bob; never come across these before.

Tbh though, I can’t see it working, as presumably it factors the output shaft (eg) to 62% of input when converting kph to mph.
Fine for the odometer.... but the speed needle will then only read 62% of full scale... meaning you’d need a very non-standard face plate?

And admittedly I should have thought of this before asking whether it was a simple speedo drive part change. Doh!

Cheers,
Simon.

Hi Lobo,
Did you get sorted? Sorry, only just seen this thread, I've not visited the forum for a while. I have a decent K2 speedo in  kph that I'm not using.

Hey Crispy,
Kind of you - thanks. In the end I took a punt and bought the £145 (260AUD) one off local eBay - it seems in good internal condition. To keep it a matched pair I’ll transfer it’s innards over to my casing using Lecram’s KPH face. (my RPM is also LECRAMs face)
Much appreciated, thanks again for the offer.
Simon.
