CB550 Float Bowl Screws
« on: February 19, 2020, 03:22:01 PM »
I have been chasing fuel leaks for the past few weeks. New fuel tap (OEM), float valves and seats, float pins. Put it back together once and float bowl gasket seal leak (my fault). Put it back together again and leak from number 2 caused by float valve seat not in fully (again my mistake for not double checking) saw it as soon as I lifted the float bowl. Fixed and started to re-assemble and now one thread on No 2 float bowl is  not holding torque as thread partially stripped. Are these M4 ? Could I helicoil it or do I need to source another carb body ?

Thanks for your help.

We helicoil all our float bowls as a matter of course as they strip for fun. When Trig appears, I will ask him what size screw ( I should know off the top of my head as I sell packs of replacement JIS Screw sets for them in my Fleabay Shop but, I can't remember 🙄🙄🙄🙄)

Thanks all, I managed to find an M4 in my box of bolts with allen key head (don`t tell the rivet counters). This clearly had a better thread and has held well. Carbs are now back on awaiting trial. About 4th time lucky !
