I'll let him know about the Japan idea (coals to Newcastle springs to mind!), and the potential cost involved.
The bike isn't even registered for UK mainland, never has been, the bil and his Dad went over to Guernsey to visit relatives on a 250 Superdream and found it was gutless two up going up a hill. The father went into a local bike dealer who was a Kawasaki dealer and px'd the dream for the Z400j. They round it around the island for a week jumped on the ferry to Southampton where they live and the father put it in the shed and never rode it or registered it! It's not even run-in! He has the original bill of sale, an old green log book and everything is still there. The photo flatters the bike really, the brake calipers are corroded and the hoses are perished. Tyres are original (as is the air in them!). I took the plugs out and they were fine! Everything is 100% original and untouched.
He also had a Brough Superior in there under a blanket but as it was old and the tank was rusty he cut it up and threw it in a skip....... No, not really 😏.
