Refitting carbs But airbox bits missing
« on: March 06, 2020, 05:46:06 PM »
I just refitted the carbs and found the best way fit the intake side to the carbs was to take out the air filter box and battery holder. That leaves a big hole and after much industrial terminolgy and plain brute force I squeezed that into place, (Don't try this if you value the frame paintwork!) but then I've found I'm missing a mounting bracket from the front of the air filter box. I can't find any on line and rather than resort to a couple of cable ties if anyone has one spare and would like to exchange it for some beer tokens please let me know. Ta.

Hi Julie

I got these numbers off CMS. 17317323010 or 17319323000

I can't be sure which is the right one because it looks like there's a right mishmash of bits lurking under the seat!

OK This is the bit I have

Hi Julie

Thanks for the info but the good news is I found it in the shed spiders stash under a stack of flooring boards! ;D Even better news; I've put it all back together again and it actually starts! :D :D :D :D :D. But will it run properly? ::) Time for tea.

To continue. Everything is back together and the bike starts but even with all cables and throttle screws off "tick over" 2k+! Could this be throttle slides not seating and/or is the mixture setting wrong? Either way I'm going to need someone with a set of vacuum gauges to sort it. Anyone recommended a service in the Bognor Regis area?

Did you bench sync the carbs before fitting Bob?

I thought that had been done by the chaps who referbed them for me. I've checked the mixture screws and they are set at one and a half turns out, and operating the throttle by hand they all seemed to be opening together OK. Could it be they're just set to high?

Yes, either all set too high or 1 or more too high. Did you notice if the slides were fully closing when the idle screw was backed off all the way?

Must have missed that cos' the chokes were closed to stop stuff getting inside...ooops and bugger! Looks like I'm stripping out the air box again. :-[ Any suggestions on what to use to set the right clearances?

Follow Bryan's guide... Instead of a drill shank, I always use the red squirt tube off of the WD40 can
