seized bolts on alternator cover

i need to remove cover that covers the alternator but the philips head screws are stuck solid all four of them any ideas as to how to go about removing it other than taking a grinder to it thanks everyone

Do you have an impact driver?

If not, buy one immediately!  Second most useful bit of kit in your toolbox (after the workshop manual)

im on it, it wont remove heads will it otherwise im screwed no pun intended

+ 1 impact driver, as you hit the head turns screw fraction every hit

a great handy tool that you will time and time again

impact driver, almost never fails. If it does either drill the head off, remove the cover and use mole grips on the remains or use a 'dremel' type mini drill with a mini cutting disk to cut a slot across it and use a conventional screwdriver bit in the impact driver

An impact driver is a must for a Jap bike.

I've had mine for nearly 30 years and wouldn't be without it.

Ditto, to all of the above + penol (Penertraing Oil) and a blow lamp. If a bolt is looking a bit stubborn I soak it over night in penol and next day try again, if this doesn't work after a couple of attempts, I lightly warm (not blasting hot) the aluminum casting around the offending bolt then try.
