carb gasket set 

anybody tell me if this is suitable kit for carbs on my bike

The 323 in the number indicates that it is for the carbs that originated on the 500 (ie the "627" carbs with the side-side screws on the carb top)

If your 78 is a K3 then you have the later (front-back screws on the carb top) and it's the wrong kit.

Your model number will be 404 in this case.

reason i am asking david silvers have no stock on carb gaskets for my bike ( apparently hard to get spares for the carbs )

seller on e bay who has 4 sets ( nos ) says will fit 550 as well

this site seems to confirm ... carbs are  keihin, 3 screws on front, 2 on back

Carb sets with 323 WILL NOT fit on the 77/78 550  you need :-

16010-393-305 or 16010-404-004

These also fit the CB750Auto which is even less common than the 550K3.

Last time i checked they were still available from Honda just not cheep

NRP do overhaul kits for lots of carbs, said they did them for cb550k3 when I asked a few years back when they were at Stafford show
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock
